Lisa Hanna speaks on Jamaica foreign policy, Caribbean leadership, and Diaspora engagement

(05 July 2020) — In this exclusive interview with the Hon. Lisa Hanna, MP (SE St. Ann), member of the Jamaica Parliament and Opposition Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Ms. Hanna shared her perspectives on a number of issues of great importance to Jamaica and members of the Jamaican and Caribbean diaspora. Ms. Hanna, an emerging future leader in the region, shared, exclusively with Ambassador Curtis Ward, host of CaribNation TV, and publisher and editor of The Ward Post, her perspectives on politics in Jamaica and her motivation and passion to be a servant of the people.
Ms. Hanna evaluated the state of Jamaican foreign policy today versus what it used to be, and, most importantly her own vision for Jamaica’s role in global affairs and within CARICOM. Ms. Hanna pointed to at least one current Caribbean prime minister who has emerged as a Caribbean leader within the region.
On the issue of Jamaican diaspora engagement by the government of Jamaica, Ms. Hanna, in recognizing the importance of the diaspora to Jamaica, offered her own vision on what the government’s role should be. Ms. Hanna also addressed a number of social issues, in particular with regard to youth and women in Jamaican society.

Very interesting conversation you had with Lisa Hanna. It seems like she has nothing to prove but it’s her heart’s desire to do so, because of love of country. She came across as confident and caring. Very easy on the eyes also.

Lisa should be told that this world POST Covid… will be a different placeThe majority of what we consider NORMAL now..will not exist when the Virus decides to calm down…off course that depends on the Jamaicans…

Excellent interview. I like the Minister’s view on Jamaica being a stronger voice in foreign affairs and also the need for CARICOM countries to stand together.
I agree. Jamaica has not taken any firm foreign policy positions in recent years and has become a fence sitter which is uncharacteristic of Jamaica’s proud history.
